Hak Sun Kim M.D., Ph.D.
(President , the Korean Orthopaedic Association)
Dear Colleagues and Members of the Korean Orthopaedic Association,
It is a great honor and privilege to serve as President of the Korean Orthopaedic Association (KOA), an academic community with a proud tradition of advancing orthopaedic science and promoting public health.
The medical environment in Korea has recently faced unprecedented challenges, including disputes between the medical profession and policy authorities. While the immediate crisis has passed, much work remains to ensure that orthopaedic training and patient care continue to thrive. The KOA will take the lead in safeguarding high-quality education for our residents and supporting our members in clinical practice.
During ongoing healthcare restructuring and disease classification reform, many orthopaedic conditions have been excluded from the categories of "severe" or "essential" care. This is not merely a matter of classification-it directly affects the sustainability and recognition of orthopaedic medicine.
Orthopaedics plays a vital role in improving quality of life, maintaining musculoskeletal health, and sustaining social productivity. To strengthen and objectively demonstrate the medical and social value of our field, we will collaborate with experts in preventive medicine and health assessment to reaffirm the role of orthopaedics and establish its rightful place in the healthcare system.
Building on the achievements of previous leadership, the KOA will continue to enhance international collaboration, academic excellence, and solidarity among members. Together, we will shape a stronger and more forward-looking Association that contributes meaningfully to the global orthopaedic community.
I sincerely thank all members for their dedication and support, and I wish you continued success and good health.
